THE PACK OF BASTARDS
Fighting in the woods at the Fight Pits
Living in the Northwest District at the Whitemantle Sanctum
The Bastards are a misfit pack of werewolves from varying places. They are bonded together by their misfortune, loss of or banishment from their pack of origin, their lust for hand-to-hand combat, their fearlessness in the face of death, and their hatred for vampires. The Bastards have a structure of authority, and distinctive Core Values that define the pack culture.
Pack Structure
The Bastards are lead by an Alpha and three Councilmembers. Positions on the seat of the Council are fought for and obtained through near-death or death matches as agreed-upon by challenger and Councilmember. A Councilmember cannot refuse a challenge lest they appear weak and damage their reputation. Alphas may also be challenged for their position, though this is extremely uncommon. The current Alpha is the wolf-witch Vai, and she is both feared and loved.
Pack Members
Alpha: Vai
First Council: Louis Price
Second Council: Ethan
Third Council:
Others: Jesse Sterling
Pack Core Values and Motivations
Vampires are Oppressors, Aggressors, Abominations
The motivation for their hatred and/or dislike of vampires can come from a variety of sources. Some believe that the dead should stay dead, and vampires are dangerous abominations that should be eliminated. Others have more personal reasons for their ire. Since werewolf venom can kill vampires, it is common for entire packs to have been cut down by vampire covens as preventative measures. Many of the Bastards have come from packs that were nearly wiped out by vampires.
Courage
The Bastards fear nothing, not even death. An individual who goes up against impossible odds is often celebrated regardless of the outcome.
Sense of Adventure
The world is vast and life is filled with things to discover and experience. Needless to say, adrenaline junkies are right at home with this pack.
Strength
Physical and psychological strength and endurance are considered invaluable. If the Pack fails, all one has to rely on is themselves.
Challenge
A Bastard will take on any challenge to test their strength, for the thrill of it or to further their reputation.
Competition, Achievement, and Reputation
Competition between pack members is encouraged - as this strengthens the pack as a whole. All pack members are keenly aware of one another's accomplishments - both in the Fight Pit and out in the world. Reputation is based on the whole of the pack values, but especially who performs well in fights.
Loyalty to the Pack
The sense of family is strong with werewolves, and especially so amongst the Bastards. Being displaced from one's original family can do that to a person.
Security
While it is true that no Bastard fears death when it comes, a sense of security at their home base is important to them. Many measures have been taken at the Whitemantle Sanctum to ensure that they will suffer no vampire or hunter raids while they sleep.
Initiation
Prospective members must be werewolves and prove themselves in a deathmatch in the Fight Pit.
Should a human desire membership, they must first win a tournament in the Fight Pit. Tournaments for initiation are not formally structured, but three victories in regular matches earns the right to go up against a current pack member. If the human prospect fights well, and they earn the favor of the Alpha, the curse will be passed to the human and they will be welcomed into the pack.
Beliefs
Some members of the pack worship a war-deity. It is neither a pack requirement nor an openly spoken about thing. (more details to come, probably. Feel free to send me a message to chat about it if you'd like!)
History
Vai has been picking up miscellaneous lost werewolves to form The Bastards since she was banished from her own in [DATE]. The Bastards were nomadic for much of their history, never settling in one particular place, going wherever Vai lead them. Unable to establish a secure sanctuary for a stretch of time, they suffered some major losses to the hands of hunters and vampires alike. Once coming up on the concentration of leylines here in the city in the early 1900s, Vai was able to draw on the concentration of magical energy in the forest to carve out a home in the forest for the pack.
When the hunters came to the city, Vai doubled down on magical protections in Whitemantle Sanctum to ensure that none would be able to find (or destroy) the pack.
